WHEN SHOULD YOU MOVE IN WITH YOUR MATE?

The desire to want to live together in a relationship often comes to soon. Given the current cost of living and the state of the economy people are moving in together faster then expected. But when is truly the right time to move in with your mate? Is there a time limit on how long you should have known the person? If you have children do their ages matter? Does it matter if they are boys or girls? Can you really say you know someone if you have never lived with them? I can say that living with your mate is a true test of what the future holds. Before the bags are packed and the keys are shared set some ground rules. If you are not comfortable with sharing or having boundaries set, then make sure you are ready for the possible outcome. Don't let splitting the bills be your deciding factor.

When Holiday Dinner Is Cooked By The Worse Cook!

So we all know the holidays are fast approaching and let's face it everybody can't cook. We all have the one family member that will cook up a ton of food invite the whole family over to a death sentence (I use death lightly) but you know what I mean. Usually this is the person with the nasty house, foreign smell and a ton of small bugs running around. Now as soon as you decline the invitation you're funny acting or ignorant. But the ignorance started with them asking anyone to come break bread with them and the food and location both suck. I know this is the time of year to enjoy your loved ones and be thankful. So this year we would all be thankful if these people I'm referring to just decided not to cook and went over someone else's house.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT FRIDAY!

Why do you have to "put your two cents in"...but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?

What did cured ham actually have?

If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing?

Why do doctors leave the room while you change? They're going to see you naked anyway.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT FRIDAY!

Can you cry under water?

Why do you have to "put your two cents in"...but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?

Why are you IN a movie, but you are ON TV?

Once you're in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity?

What did cured ham actually have?

Agreeing to be in a Wedding?

If asked to be in a wedding is it okay to say no? Does it matter if they are your relative or if you have been friends for a long time? If your answer is no why do you feel that way? Is it based on how you feel about their mate? The colors you may have to wear? Or can it even break down to be jealousy? If your request is turned down by someone how will that make you feel? All things considered getting married is one of the most important days of ones life. It lets you know who supports and loves you and believes in your union and will share in you happiness.

WOULD YOU ACCEPT A CHILD THAT YOUR MATE HAD ON YOU?

How would you feel if your mate had a baby with someone else while in a relationship with you? Would you be willing to accept the child like your own? Do you think you would stay with the person or leave them? I'm sure men would take the situation a lot harder since after having a child the baby always goes with mom never the dad. Women have it easy because the child wouldn't live with them. Do you feel like it's better to walk away or try and make the relationship work?

SHOULD YOU TELL YOUR MATE HOW MANY SEXUAL PARTNERS YOU HAVE HAD?

Telling your mate about your past sex life is that ok? Is this a fair question to ask in your relationship? When asked how many people have you been intimate with previously should you be honest? If you know it was over fifty should you say ten? Will the answer change how you view the person? If there are plans for a long term relationship will you cut it short because of the answer? Is it really your partners business? If you refuse to tell do you have something to hide? Is it ok for women to have more sex partners than men?

Interview With Tenisha and Rick

If you are not drinking coffee from the Larchmere Coffee Shop or getting that fly do at Glam~R~Us Styling Studio and the best Virgin Hair Distributor in the city then you not living. There is a dynamic power couple taking this city by storm one expresso and fresh hair style at a time. Tenisha Lovelace and Eric Miller aka “Expresso Rick” has got the game on lock. They are winning in every way by taking their relationship and businesses and building an empire. I was able to talk to Tenisha and Rick and see just how they handle all the work, love and challenges that life may bring them.

UJJ: Being in the Coffee business the competition is fierce with places like Starbucks and Caribou how do you make your Cafe standout among the rest?

Rick: I stand out from my competition mainly because I am one of the few black owned coffee companies in Cleveland and once people know that they are always willing to support their own. Also I offer high quality coffee made from high quality coffee beans for a much lower price than the competition. In this economy you have to stay competitive.

UJJ: Having a relationship and both of you running a business how do you make time for each other?

Rick and Tenisha: Well it’s simple since we run our businesses together we have no choice, lol. We work and live together so we do it as one. Running now 3 businesses can be stressful at times we always remember to stay focused on each other no matter what and know that working at a relationship is the 4th job, and can't neglect that either. So we make sure no matter how busy we are through the week to take one day out the week (usually Sunday) to not do anything at all just hang with each other and do whatever we want to get that quality time in with one another.

UJJ: You have always been a trend setter and doing your own thing. Is staying edgy and up to date on the latest hair and style hard?

Tenisha; Well overall it’s not hard for me, I have always loved clothes and shoes and fashion and anything related to that! Most people don’t know but when I was 22 I was accepted into a School for the Fine Arts program in Miami, FL to focus on Fashion Design and Merchandising, but circumstances did not allow me to go. So I did want that to have a career in fashion at that point in life because I love it so it just comes kind of natural to me. So being able to express my creativity through doing hair, is the next best thing, and this industry allows me to dress as cute and fly as I like when I come to work, so the two definitely go hand in hand.

UJJ: Coming from East Cleveland growing up did you foresee yourself being successful so young?

Rick: Answer to your first question is YES! I always saw myself being successful at a young age because I have ALWAYS had a hustler’s mentality and wanted big things out of my life. I always knew there was more that I wanted to accomplish other than just the street life. Nothing has ever been handed to me and I've had to work hard for everything in my life, so I knew I would be successful and I'm still not done!!

UJJ: What was one of the biggest challenges you faced while trying to reach your goals?

Rick: Biggest challenge would have to be un-loyal people. It’s really hard to find people in business to be honest and loyal and not just always try to take what we have worked hard for.

UJJ: The hair industry is so saturated in Cleveland there is a shop on every corner what does Glam~R~US Styling Studio offer to keep the clients coming back

Tenisha: Well we have a very diverse group of talented women working at Glam~R~Us, so there is someone there that can create basically any style that you would be looking for from natural hair, to short cuts, to quick weaves, to sew-ins to invisible parts we are a very diverse group. The "Glam Squad" is always ready to help that women look and feel their best. We feel that once all of our renovations are complete we will be one the elite salons in Cleveland with an upscale atmosphere that will be inviting for everyone. We are also different because we know how important giving back to our community is which most salons seem to forget about, so that is why 3 times a year we hold a "free for all" where our entire staff offer up their services to those in need for free. We recently held a Back to School Drive on May 26, 2012 from 11am to 4pm for school age children headed back to school. They received a shampoo/blow-dry/style for free. This was  really for parents who may not have money to get their child's hair done because they have more important things to pay for such as schools supplies, clothes, and shoes. So we wanted to do our part to help our community in any way we can, and ALL were welcome to come out! We will also offer our services and do this again near Christmas time and Easter.

Rick and Tenisha have got it together with a new project still in the works the new Epic Designz Barber Shop. What more can you ask for? Beauty, brains and business exudes from this couple on the rise. Keeping love and happiness in focus these two clearly have what it takes to succeed. So next time your need a fly hair style head on over to Glam~R~Us but don’t forget to get your coffee from the Larchmere Coffee Shop!

SHOULD YOU WAIT FOR A MATE THAT IS IN JAIL?

It's a sad time when your loved one has to go and serve time in prison but how long should you wait for them? If you have only been together less than a year and they are sentenced to three years should you wait? Does it matter if they are your husband/wife or parent of your child? Is it okay to have sex with someone else if its longer than one year? When should you call it quits and move on with your life? Are you suppose to send money and food boxes if they took care of you should you do the same?

Do you think more women wait then men?

When Is Oral Sex Okay?

Is oral sex okay if you are the only one giving it? If you are told "I don't do that" or "I'm not good at it "is that okay? When should you bring that into your relationship the first date, six months, how long before you offer? Does that make you a freak? If a man/women does this on the first date is that ok? Would you prefer to only have oral sex and nothing else? If the oral sex is bad are you suppose to help the person do it to your liking or decline every time? SHOULD YOU HIRE FAMILY?

When is it okay to hire your family? Many times people will hire their loved ones to do work for them or even work with them. Is that a good idea? Do you expect the family member to go above and beyond because you are related? Do you put them at a much higher level of responsibility because of the relationship? How much should you pay them? More than the other employees because your related? If given the opportunity to refer them for a job do you let the hiring person know this is your family? Is it best to leave that out of the conversation so if they don’t work out it’s not a reflection of you? Wanting your family to be successful but letting your career or business suffer as a result is it worth it? How do you decide?

Is it ok to date your friends ex ?

Is it ever ok to date someone your friends dated? If you meet a man/women out in the streets whether it's at the store, bar, or club and you realize after the initial conversation and name exchange that he/she dated your friend what should you do? Is the deciding factor how long ago they dated? What if they only had sex once or twice or not at all? Should you have to call your friend and get the ok from him/ her? If your friend says they have an issue with it are you obligated not to date the person? There are many questions to be asked on this topic. How would you decide? What would you do?

Do Americans Earn Enough?

If you go to work everyday the belief is that you want to be able to take care of your family on the wages you earn. For many Americans that is something they can only wish and pray for. According to U.S statistics only about 5.2% are making less so why are we still such an impoverished people? In 2011, 73.9 million American workers age 16 and over were paid at hourly rates, representing 59.1 percent of all wage and salary workers. Among those paid by the hour, 1.7 million earned exactly the prevailing Federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. About 2.2 million had wages below the minimum. Together, these 3.8 million workers with wages at or below the Federal minimum made up 5.2 percent of all hourly-paid workers. These numbers are encompassing all Americans but I wanted to know specifically where African Americans fell amongst others. The following are some highlights from the 2011 data. About 5 percent of White hourly-paid workers earned the Federal minimum wage or less, compared with about 6 percent of Blacks and about 3 percent of Asians. Among hourly-paid workers of Hispanic ethnicity, about 5 percent earned the minimum wage or less. So if blacks only make up 6 percent of people earning less than minimum wage or just at that amount what are the rest of you doing? If you woke up today and are headed to work make it count. It seems we are on the right track. Given this data African American incomes are high and we should be on the road to success.

Playing Second Fiddle

Now why is at that women and men are willing to play second to keep someone in their life? What can make a person's self esteem so low that they are willing to settle? Most believe they will have the power to persuade the person to leave there current mate. But until that happens they are content with the little they get or small moments of attention. Most will say the sex is great, they give me money or I know he or she really loves me to keep them there. You have to make yourself a priority not someone's second choice or option. Small food for thought I don't have all the answers or no the only way but just like to share my view.

WHEN IS IT OKAY TO STOP USING CONDOMS?

When is it okay to stop using a condom in relationships? If you have been seeing the same guy/girl for over a year can you stop? Once you establish that you both love each other can you stop then? Do you really know about the person's health or do you care? Have you considered the risks that come with not using one? Do you just say oh well because you trust them? Aids, herpes and babies are not determined by love but by negligence. Who is to blame? If you had learned more at home or in school about your worth or sex education would you make better decisions? People be smart you have to be more careful! The plastic that lies between you and him shouldn't make or break the relationship. We make far too many decisions based on sex alone. Men sometimes determine if they will stay in a relationship because the sex is good or if they will marry a women because she gives great head and vice versa for women. Never once saying lets go to the doctor so you both don't end up dead or sick with the "hot shit " in bed. I know that people are not perfect and we make mistakes. Make better choices and don't let one mistake be your demise.

Cleveland's own MJtheDJ Interview

The 5th Quarter Mixtape Release September 16, 2012

I recently sat down with one of the hottest new DJs in the city MJTHEDJ. He is taking the Cleveland club scene by storm.  His raw mix talent and crazy energy he is definitely one to watch and follow.  MJ has been DJ’ing since 2010.  MJ grew up in the St. Clair neighborhood and attended local public schools.  During MJ's childhood he was bounced around 16 foster homes. He finally got a family to call his own when he was adopted at 14. He went off to college in Ohio for a short time before transferring to Kentucky where he earned an Associates Degree in Science. While in college he was given the name "Muzikal Jeanius" eventually shortened to “MJ”.  MJ is not only a DJ he is a drummer, writes music, and plays the keyboard and trumpet. While DJing wasn't his first passion it paid the bills.  He has dreams of being a producer.  In less than a year MJTHEDJ has taken the party scene to a whole new level.  I met up with MJTHEDJ at Panini’s on Coventry and I asked him some tough questions about love, life and music.

UJJ: What makes you a great DJ?
MJ:   I have a sick crazy energy I hang off stuff, I dance I give the crowd all of me every time no half stepping.

UJJ: What was your biggest break so far for you?
MJ:  Just recently I was able to be the DJ for Black Cobain who was on tour with Meek Mills. The opportunity put me in position to be asked by Black Cobain to be his DJ. I gained 200 new twitter followers it was dope.

UJJ: What's your age and real name?
MJ: I'm in my 20's and I only tell my name to the people I trust my last name is Booker-Dye

UJJ: Who is your favorite DJ?
MJ: DJ MOBEATZ a real good dude and close friend he has taught me a lot and I have a great respect for him.  As well as DJ Drama being the one who really put DJ's on the map and took the mix tape game to a whole new level.

UJJ: Do you have a special love interest or are you seeing anyone?
MJ: No I am single but I want to have a girl. I will admit I have trust issues when it comes to relationships but I want someone to share my life with. Not just someone who wants to be with me because of the new attention i get someone who likes me for me.

UJJ:  Do you have kids?
MJ: As for kids I want to wait until I'm married I don't just want a "Baby Momma" nothing against those who do since I was adopted its really important for me to take it serious.

UJJ: What club scene do you prefer to work?
MJ: Although, I love the urban club scene I would say downtowns club scene is where I can play the top 40 hits and mix something like Adele & 2Chains songs and the sound is nuts.

UJJ: How does it feel to be nominated as Ohio Hottest New DJ at this years Ohio Hip Hop Awards?
MJ: To be nominated is an honor. I wanted to be up for this award last year but wasn't given a nomination. So the idea that my hard work is paying off and I'm being noticed as the best is amazing.

UJJ: What are some of the big things that we can expect from you in the near future?
MJ: I have my first mix tape being released Sept 16 Titled "The Fifth Quarter" I'm so excited which will be co-hosted by Ted Ginn Jr.  Who also runs my management team Crew Camp Management . Most DJ's don't release a mix tape this early in their career so that makes it that much better. While most new DJ's first mix tape are not this highly anticipated. When I put the word out I got so many entries from local talent wanting to be a part of it. I will be doing real mixing and live scratching on the cd. I just finished the intro last night.

UJJ: How have you been received by your friends and family regarding your career?
MJ: The people who have always supported MJ do still love and support me and everyone else I can't worry about.

MJ has such great energy and a nice smile. When he is not dj’ing he refers to himself as a "dork" or just a normal guy.  MJ is an all around cool guy who is taking his love for music and making it his career.  So make sure you go to Ohio Hip Hop awards and vote for him daily at http://www.ohiohiphopawards.com.  Also look out for the hot new mix tape "The Fifth Quarter" release date September 16, 2012.

For all access to MJTHEDJ you can follow him on Instagram at @ _mjthedj and twitter @_mjthedj.

TRUST YOUR MATE

Often in relationships we don't know when to fall back and just take it easy. We easily push our mates or love interest away by just being to damn insecure. It's okay to want to spend time with them and give them affection but not when it causes tension or irritation from other party. Men you don't have to mark your territory when your with your lady by holding her hand or resting your arm on her chair. Trust if you came with her everyone one saw you relax. While ladies you don't have to turn your nose up at every women who walks bye because you think they all want him take it as a plus you have a man worth looking at. Men don't dish out more than you can take. If you stay out late with no questions asked be okay when your mate stays out late with her girls too. Whats good for one should be good for both. That excuse about you being a man or from the streets is old news let it go. Learn how to trust your mate don't make them not want to be honest or forced to tell a lie because you always have something to say. Make A Sacrifice

Often in our lives we reach a point when nothing seems to be working out right. We can't get the job we want, kids won't listen, and relationship is out of whack. If life were like a car take the bad tires off, get a tune up and check all the fluids then roll off into the sunset it would be great. More often then not we don't do enough ground work to make sure things move how we want in life. We look for the easy way out or chase after the wrong things. How many of you have gone to party with no money in the bank and all your bills past due? How many times have you only paid half your bill instead of the whole amount. By putting these thing at the bottom of your list will only continue to have you left behind. Remember nothing good comes easy a little bit if sacrifice will go a long way later.

The Lost Generation

Whatever happened to the fair fight, an argument being just an argument? Today anyone can get a gun no license needed. Who is to blame? When senseless violence is happening in our communities day after day. Have we become a generation of no remorse? Women walking to their cars being robbed at gunpoint, men killing their girlfriends and children, no one is safe. Have we not become tired of candle light vigels and bears and flowers tied to poles to show love and remembrance. The lives that have been lost are worth way more than that. Does every one need to bear arms in order to feel safe? There is no one to point the finger at but ourselves we created this environment and it has spiraled out of control. The streets today are kill or be killed. How can anyone feel safe like that?

DOES SIZE MATTER?

Amongst women there is often the belief that size does matter. Will size determine how long you date someone or if you will be with them long term?Have you ever asked a man to see his penis first before you make the next move?Their are so many factors that go into size. The penis could be large and then the sex is horrible so it's a waste. What is too big when it's just uncomfortable and more pain than pleasure. Do men no when there penis is little?Do they just make themselves believe it's bigger than it really is. Often the man with the smallest penis talks the most shit. Should you tell the man hey this is not what I expected so please get up?

So does size matter?

Popularity

It is said that to who much is given much is expected.
It is amazing that being popular or the center of attention doesn't stop after high school. Have you ever wondered how some of the people that get looked at as the movers and shakers can often be the snakes and the fakers? No one can ever really tell which way is up whether they’re getting the real person or the fake. If a war broke out in the city where would you stand? Next to the man holding the knife cause he had True Religion marked on his hand? Or find your way to the peasants to hide down in caves to avoid being killed cause you are a coward with no weapon. Everyone wants the lights, camera, action and fame all that comes with hard work no pain no gain. Be clear of how you want to be viewed. Be kind to all people and do your best not to pass judgment. So when you rock your True's and wear them Jimmy Choos you feel you on top of the world and you no longer got the blues. Now if we minus all that would people still call you cool?

KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF

As a kid you learn to keep your hands to yourself why it is so hard for us to remember that as adults? Often we believe that if you have money that all your problems willgo away. There is certainly three sides to every story; her side, his side and the truth which no one knows but them. At some point you have to step back and weigh all your options.Do I put my hands on him/her and lose my freedom, possibly my career  or do I walk away and calm down? The easier route would be to walk away and calm down then come back once you have cooled off. But I guess sometimes you react before you think which is what happened in the Chad Johnson and Evelyn Lozada case alledgedly  I would like to think a man with a prominent football career would not risk all that by hitting a women. Clearly he doesn’t realize the influence he plays in the eyes of the people who look at him as a role model, father and mentor to many. How can people support him or cheer him on if he has a temper and can’t control his emotions? Now this doesn’t mean that the women should be able to say and do what she wants with no repercussions but you married her so deal with it. Women have a way of provoking a man to violence or arguing until they snap. Sadly, some women get off on this. There has to be a point when you say this isn’t working we need to breakup or separate. Love is a hard thing that must be worked on daily. The solution to ones problems can’t be solved by hitting, head butting or knocking your significant other around.

What do you think would you take him back?

Kyrie Irving Camp

Today i had the great pleasure to attend the Kyrie Irving Basketball Camp.  Camp started at 9am  for kids 7-18 . Tons of kids and lots of coaches to try and take these kids games to the next level. Loacl DJ KNYCE  was in the building playing the hits to keep the kids motivated and pumped to play. The camp broke off into different age groups to perfect the skills for all levels of play. Kyrie came in the building and the kids went crazy all smiles everywhere. Kyrie took taem pics with the kids and did a couple of drills with the kids to show him what they learned. The camp is for two days so I will be right back here at it tomorrow. If you are looking for something positive for you son/daughter who loves the game of basketball then next year you have to come out and support this camp. It's good to see Kyrie willing to do the camp here and give back to the city that supports him and the Cleveland Caviliers.

Does A Man Want A Freak?

When you hear men talk about what they want they say they want a women in the streets and a freak in the sheets. Is that really the case? A lot of times women worry about the judgment a man will place on her as soon as she shows this side of herself. The first question a man may have is “Does she do this with everyone?” Now he feels she's a hoe. What they don't understand is that all the extra “freakish” stuff women are into sometimes is solely for themselves. But most of the time the extra foreplay, the lingerie, heck even the high heels that make her feet hurt are really all for him. It's easy for us to turn this on and off like a switch. As women we pick and choose some slip thru the cracks guys that really didn't deserve all the exciting stuff we give them but other times there are those guys that every time we see them we think of new tricks! So men don't judge your lady because she shows you her inner freak embrace the love and appreciate it.

Who Pays the Bill?

Being younger growing up I learned that whoever touches the bill pays the bill. Now I know today it is not that simple but really who should cover the bill. If you go out to dinner with your girls should the bill be divided equally among everyone? If one person only had a salad and the others orders steaks should everyone still have to pay the same cost?  When one person from the group offers to pay the whole bill should everyone else leave the tip? How do you decide?  On a date with the opposite sex who should cover the cost of the date? Should it matter if this is the first date or fifth date? Men say its sexy to see a women pay for him and show she doesn't expect him to do it all. Often the problem comes when they feel like the date that the other party may have paid for was cheaper so now they have to spend more money. Is going Dutch the best practice everyone pay for themselves? Having dinner or dating is tough when people and attitudes are so different.  Best practice pay for what you eat, tip the waitress bad or good, and don't argue about the bill shows no class and very tasteless.

Dating and Religion

In many cultures religion is the determining factor for who you will marry, who you are allowed to date or if you can even consider this person as your mate. In the black community these factors as they relate to religion seems to be non existent. Can you recall a time when you asked your date about there religion? For many culture this could be the first and sometimes only question before moving forward. Within the black community many of the questions we pose are insignificant and hold no merit. These questions range from asking about his/her income to questioning him/her about past relationships. Why are we so focused on matters of nothing? Are these the reasons our relationships fail because the ground they are built on have no concrete just quick sand? Im sure many of my readers as well as myself were brought up in the church every Sunday with our grandparents. Did we not pay attention or are we just not willing to remember the values and moral teachings that were taught to us? They say when you know better you do better. Ask the question do you pray? Are you a man of God? The answer may surprise you and he may forever respect you. Remember there is no such thing as a dumb question except for the ones you don't ask!

The proof is in the Pudding!!!

For years or even centuries women have been trying to figure out men how they think, act and just outright function. At 32 years old I can say I still have no clue. All the books and movies in the world can't help you with the average man because the ones portrayed in the movies no one ever meets. Most of my friends, including myself find ourselves dating the street pharmacist on a come up "not". Or even the man just leaving his baby mama who’s mad because she was not the best to him so the next women doesn't stand a chance. Even better is the dude who cleans up nice in the club, drives a really nice car, but lives with his girl and it's her car! Now the last type of guy is the worse cause they are the ones that got more dates then the law allow. Tell you to only text them certain times of day and you better not think about quality time on the holiday because he will be with her. Now how is it that a man who has a women who is willing to carry the load for you and her is still willing to cheat please fellas explain? Now I'm sure there are some good men out there but they are not just standing out in the open to be chosen. At the end of the day we all want complete happiness.

Hey let me know are there standup guys out there?

Women have you found what you need in a man?

Rep Yo City

The city where I'm from once known as the mistake on the lake has turned into the place to be. Downtown city life is coming back the Horseshoe Casino is definetly where it's at. If gambling isn't your thing and you want to dance and sing take a walk down West 6th and your sure to find a place to do your party thing. Try riding the bull or get into some bull all u need is right here. For those who like to roam the hood streets you can check out the Cocktale for hood songs , friends and good drinks . Acrosstown as we say you can stop by Draped on Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Gate both spots go hard in the paint. No doubt Cleveland is the city where you can eat, play and drink!

What's your favorite night spot?
